"Numbers"

One of the recent books I made.

This is a Gothic style binding in wood boards, sewn on double cords, and bound in goatskin. The signatures are Gutenberg paper. The book clasps are constructed of sterling silver and brass. The eight corner bosses are also of sterling silver with brass numbered screen tacks in the center, numbered 1-8. This book measures6" tall by .5" wide and is 1 1/2 " thick.

After a number of years as a metalsmith, I became interested in book arts and found my niche focusing on constructing metal book clasps and decorations., and I now teach workshops in this to other book aartists. The "Numbers" book is one of my more recent work in that area.

Mac & Cheese Box Collector

There is a collector for everything. Ian Golder, who collects macaroni and cheese boxes, recently made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Some really funny cheeeze.

Janus

These ceramic heads reside in the pigeonhole cubbies of an old hotel mail shelf which hangs in my dining room. I like the sense of past and present and future, looking forward to a new start of the year.

As I approach 65 in 2009, it's really hard to keep from looking back and getting mired down in reviewing all my past mistakes. Especially when I have never been more aware than I am now that there are few or no chances for making some things right or opportunities for do overs.

Instead, I try to remind myself that it does no good to look back and regret, because, if I do that, I might miss the all the good and interesting things that are happening now. Focus forward. My motto for 2009.

Plan Ahead

Another doll head photo. This one taken at my studio. She sits in a cubby waiting for me to find a use for her. All of the items you see in the photo were in the cubby originally, arranged as you see them. The doll head sitting on top of the plan ahead sign. When I realized what the sign said, I just pulled it forward so that the words were more visible.

Caged

Many years ago my friend gave me this chalk-ware baby head. I immediately placed it in the birdcage where it has been hanging amongst the plants ever since.

She always catches people by surprise. When they come into the living room they don't immediately notice her hidden behind the Shefflera, like the wallflower that she is, yearning to be free. Maybe this will be her year.

Cosmo, Stylin' for the Holidays

On my way to work this morning I spotted a guy walking this dog. I made my husband stop the car so I could take a picture. I'm sure the owner thought I was a little nutty, but he was friendly and willing to let me photograph. Cosmo, I learned, is an older rescue dog from the Anti Cruelty Society here in Chicago. We got our cat there also. It's a great place to adopt.

I can tell Cosmo is loved. I love his wreath. Lucky dog!

He should be the poster boy on a holiday card for the humane society.

Serendipitous Cheeeze Moments!

You would be surprised how many serendipitous cheese moments there can be in one day.

First there was the cheeezy cheese ball at Whole Foods. Doesn't that look appetizing, now? The plastic knife was so difficult to remove from the cheese ball that it felt like it was actually merging into, and becoming one with it, much like the American cheese and the paper plate in the previous post. What is in this stuff?

The second cheese moment was at the restaurant last evening. My grand daughter was at one with the parmesan bottle, shaking a never ending pile into her olive oil. Cheese is fun!

American Cheeeze?

What happens when a Kraft single meets a paper plate?

Wedded forever.

Christmas Cactus

For anyone who needs tips on Christmas cactus care, I guess neglect is the answer. Other than remembering to water my plants every once in a while when they beg, I pretty much ignore them. Yet, this Christmas cactus started blooming prolifically a couple of years ago and never stops. It's already started again this year.

What Now?

What Now?

I'm just a curious old lady always looking for new avenues and new things to explore ever since I took off on the Information Superhighway way back in the old days.

Finally getting up to date on Facebook, and now exploring Twitter where I found Guy Kawasaki and alltop. It was a short step from there to posterous, which is what's now.

Why not?

Can't wait to find out what's next.
